Bliggidy Blam Review

Bliggidy Blam—Formal I

Brian McWhorter and Nate Wooley, trumpets; Mat Fieldes

and Tim Kiah, electric basses; Matt Aiken, drums

8Bells 002 (CD);

Outside-the-box experimentation and defiance of all categorization seem to be the goal of this musical adventure. Possibly wanting to redefine the standards by which we judge music, Mark Gould and colleagues have juxtaposed such various genres as classical, jazz, rock, rap, and electronic music to propose an entirely different way of viewing our contemporary sonic landscape. NYTE Review

Over the last three decades, the New York Trumpet Ensemble has had a variety of members that have represented both Baroque music (Festival of Trumpets and The Sound of Trumpets) and jazz (Trumpets in Stride). The current cast of the NYTE, with Mark Gould as curator, has taken a head-first plunge into experimental music, using a surplus of extended techniques. Read the rest of this entry »
